Jingle Bell Rockers
November 28th, 2007
If you are child of the 80’s, such as myself, you spent the better part of your high school years rockin’ out to everything from Def Leppard to The Police. Or if you are my husband, you still celebrate this era on a daily basis. At least during your commute.
As I’m putting my holiday shopping list together for this year, I realize I’ve done pretty well with my rocker wannabe better half so far. Last year was quite possibly the pinnacle of my gift-giving success. With a vintage Cheap Trick t-shirt in his stocking (thank you ebay), and a ticket to a Bob Seger concert tucked in the Christmas tree (thank you craigslist) I was golden. Forget the new bike for Father’s Day; he was all about the Cheap Trick t-shirt.
If you have someone with a similar love of the acoustic or electric, here’s a sampling of some great gifts. And as a special tribute to the boys of Spinal Tap, this list “goes to 11.”
- This is Spinal Tap. Quite possibly one of the funniest movies ever made. And the commentary on the DVD? Hilarious.
- You know Fender guitars? They make very cool rock and roll shirts too.
- For a more subtle rocker vibe, Target has great casual tees.
- I just spotted some incredibly hip watches in the Fossil catalog.
- If you have a collection of old concert ticket stubs and guitar picks (oh, do we have a collection) you can get a
shadow box to display them, versus their current home stashed in a shoebox. - They make picture frames exactly the size of album covers. Not that you want Motley Crue on your living room walls.
- I am generally very anti-video game. But this Playstation game is F-U-N. Guitar Hero.
- Itunes. I made a soundtrack for our anniversary in 20 minutes. Remember the days of sitting in front of your boom box for hours making mix tapes?!
- Calling all Higglytown Heroes fans – that’s They Might Be Giants singing the theme song. It’s on their album for kids, Here Come the ABCs.
- Remember spending our Saturday mornings glued to the tube? You must hear The Ramones version of Spiderman. Saturday Morning Cartoons’ Greatest Hits CD.
- School of Rock. Great movie with Jack Black. He’s a slacker turned substitute teacher who transforms school kids into rockers.
Happy Jingle Bell Rockin’!
